Organization: Moscow Municipal Agency for Technical Control State Unitary Enterprise (GUP MGSTK)
Established in 1997 by the by the Moscow City Government, the Moscow Municipal Agency for Technical Control State Unitary Enterprise (GUP MGSTK) is responsible for organizing state technical inspections of motor vehicles in the city of Moscow, monitoring compliance with regulations and GOSTs (state standards), and providing the technical and organizational enforcement of these measures. Though GUP MGSTK does not directly perform the technical inspections, the agency is responsible for ensuring that the technical and engineering capabilities exist, so that the inspections can be properly performed.
More than 100 computer workstations are utilized on a daily basis throughout the organization.

The agency required an inexpensive, yet effective solution to protect individual servers from various categories of malicious attacks – from the Internet, as well as the agency’s internal network. The solution would also have to make it fast and easy to configure short-term outside access for specific tasks, and maintain a log of attacks, for detection and prevention purposes. GUP MGSTK began an exhaustive search, placing particular importance on ease of installation, speed of implementation, the price/quality ratio, and an adequate software support team. In addition to the quality and capabilities of the device, itself, the agency required a support organization that would provide timely responses without excessive bureaucratic delays.
